One honest caveat: the famous 30%-ruling tax break generally does not apply to graduates hired locally after a zoekjaar (it requires recruitment from abroad). Model Dutch salaries at normal Dutch tax (~37% marginal at entry level), not expat-scheme rates. Employers must be registered HSM sponsors — the big ones (prop shops, banks, ASML, Philips, consultancies) all are.

Architecture: TU Delft's MSc Architecture — one of the world's best — is a consecutive degree requiring an architecture bachelor. Closed to a B.Tech, same as Germany/Switzerland. The design door (IDE) is wide open instead.

• Housing crisis is real. Amsterdam/Delft student rooms are genuinely hard to secure; an admit without housing is only half an admit. Use university housing services immediately on admission.
• No 30% ruling via the zoekjaar path. Don't copy expat net-salary calculators — they usually assume the ruling. Your net on €55k is ≈ €3,300/mo.
• Dutch politics on migration. Recent cabinets have debated curbing English-taught programs and student migration; enacted changes so far spare masters programs, but re-check each cycle.
• Prop-shop selectivity. The €200k quant outcome is a top-few-percent result, not a median. The median NL outcome (~€55k) is good, not spectacular — the option value is what you're buying.

The Netherlands has arguably the best work-life balance in the developed world: 36–40 hour weeks taken literally, ~25–30 vacation days, and nobody emails you on holiday. Workplaces are the most English-fluent in continental Europe — you can build a full career without Dutch, though learning it accelerates PR and friendships. Culture is famously direct: feedback is blunt, hierarchy is flat, meetings seek consensus (the "polder model"), and bike-commuting is a lifestyle, not a statement. Salaries are mid-tier European but the trading firms are a separate universe — American-style pay with European hours. The catch: finding an apartment is harder than finding a job.
